Lately I have been doing some personal development. One of the main things I am doing is listening to podcasts and this post includes something that was spoken by on The Minimalists Podcast. This blog is created to share my emigration process, but most of all to inspire others to live their dreams. My goal is to share my story, so you will learn that dreams can come true.
In this post I will be talking about personality and how acknowledging what type of person you are helps you in realising your dream.
Out of your comfortzone
When you change your life and start living your dream you most likely have to step out of your comfort zone. You have to do something different, something uncomfortable, to be able to make this lifechanging change. For a lot of people it is very difficult to step out of their comfortzone, because they would feel like they are doing something wrong, something they are not supposed to do.
But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Out of your comfortzone is where you grow, where you experience new things and it has everything you need that you are currently missing in your comfort zone.
Looking back on my experience now, from stepping out of my comfort zone, I can say that it would have been so much easier if I was more aware of who I was. I learned along the way what tools I needed to deal with certain situations, such as disappointment, judgement, insecurity and disagreement. I can 100% say that I would’ve been able to deal with all these situations better and with less drama, if I knew at the time what type of person I am.
That’s why I really want to share this, so it will help you in your uncomfortable situations.
The test to your personality
Knowing who you are, how you react to situations and how you deal with these situations will help you prepare for certain events that will cross your path while making the biggest change of your life.
This big chance can be anything, from quitting your job, to starting a family or to what I did, emigrating to a different country.
I found a test that you can do which tells you what type of person you are. I found this test on The Minimalists Podcast (they are on Spotify if you are interested!) where they refer to their website with the link to this test.
The test is called the Jung Typology Test and is based on Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs Myers’ personality type theory.
They believe in the concept that people can be divided into personality types based on their preference of general attitude.
They are either Extraverted (E) or Introverted (I)
The second functions are Sensing (S) or Intuition (N)
Then comes Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
And lastly there is Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).
Meaning of the different criteria
As explained above, the test goes of 8 different criteria.
The first one is Extraversion versus Introversion. This signifies how the person expresses themselves. Extra is more external expression of themselves oppose to Intro which is more internal, which means they will keep their thoughts and emotions more to themselves.
The second criteria is Sensing versus Intuition. This tells how someone understands information. Sensing means that this person believes information directly as how they receive it from the external world. Whereas intuition means that someone will believe information more from the internal world.
Thinking versus Feeling is the third criteria. This criteria explains how someone processes information, either based on logic or their emotions.
The final criteria is Judging versus Perceiving, which reflects how a person implements the processed information. Judging means the person is organised, has rules and sticks to the made plans. Perceiving means that there is more improvisation and exploring of alternative options.
My result and the meaning
This test for me resulted in INFJ.
Introvert – more introversion than extraversion (69%)
Intuitive – more intuition than sensing (16%)
Feeling – more feeling than thinking (6%)
Judging – more judging over perceiving (53%)
The question you have now is probably: What does INFJ mean?
This means I am not outgoing. I keep my feelings and thoughts to myself and won’t be seen as the centre of attention at a party.
This means I am aware of the future. I don’t live in the here and now, but am always thinking about what would/could happen
This means that most my decisions are based on my feelings, as well as my consideration for someone else’s feelings. I take these into account before doing anything. I don’t decide based on logic.
This means I live in a structured way. I organise my days, plan my activities and stick to this.
